Doug and Clare’s invite

Congratulations you guys! My lovely friends got married yesterday and it was fab! Having recovered from a slight hangover and sore feet from too much stupid dancing, I feel now is a good time to post their invite!

It was great fun to work on! Brutalist architecture is interesting, I’ve never really looked at it properly before. Doug and Clare had good ideas about what they wanted colour-wise (I love it when people know what they want!) and because I don’t usually use yellow and grey- it was a good challenge for me!

Fir Tree Cottage cover

I posted a little detail picture of this a while ago, but here’s the finished cover! Originally it was a bit brighter, but the author felt it needed a little darker, more melancholy feel to it and he was right. Had great fun with layers of textures! I like this style, I may play around with it a bit more often.

I’ve read some extracts, but so want to read the whole book now. Mmm book, come on publisher! Why not follow Marcus on Twitter and read all about it? (and while you are at it, you might like to follow me for updates about new projects, tea, doodles, dogs and being chased by cows)

Angry hippo

I had to draw some hippos for a cover recently and I always start with some rough sketches. There are lots of photos of hippos yawning but to me it always looks as though they are upset about something and yelling! So among my sensible sketches for the cover, I doodled this stupid one and I thought you might enjoy it!

Birthday papercut

I finally got around to grabbing the photo of this little papercut off my camera. My lovely friend Fran commissioned it for a friend’s brithday. Yey! Happy belated birthday Frances. The blue paper is really tactile and satisfying, shame the photo doesn’t really do it justice. Mmm paper!

Book cover- detail

Hey, sorry it’s been a while. I’ve been busy working away but not really doing exciting things to blog about. Tsk. Must remedy that.

In the meantime, here’s a little sneak peek at a book cover I’m working on for a friend. Will post the finished illustration soon. Ooo texturey!

Hot beverages papercut

It’s the last day of 2012 and I just thought I’d post this little papercut I made for myself- wise words from Dr Sheldon Cooper! It’s very important to bring an upset person a hot beverage. Tea is the best thing. Other acceptable options are hot chocolate and coffee with lots of cream in it. Cuppa soup is not ok. Just so you know.

Thanks for popping round to see me, hope you have a lovely new year! Right, I’m off to make some amaretto sours…
