Game of Thrones- Everyone hates Joffrey

I’m only half way through book 2 of the Game of Thrones series (and haven’t seen the TV stuff yet), but Joffrey is a hateful little git isn’t he?

(Spoiler warning) When he got his knights to hit Sansa and then dragged her up to the tower to see her father’s head, I was thinking how great it would be if…

Go Sansa! Yey! He deserves it. All the heads on sticks agree. Here they are a little closer up because the skull on the left makes me chuckle.

And here is a close up of Sansa, looking determined. Yeah! Get him!

Sadly this didn’t actually happen. I suppose I will have to wait to find out if Joffrey gets what he deserves. Don’t spoil it for me… no wait, screw it, go on spoil it! Tell me someone pushes that little jerk off a roof!

Wuthering Heights – work in progress

Finally a new post! I know, seems as though I have been very quiet recently. But I have actually been busy beavering away on a new illustration. It is a re-imagined cover for Wuthering Heights which I was invited to do as part of a big illustration project. Here’s a little peek so far.

It’s been fun to work on and I can’t wait to see what the other illustrators do for their books. Check out http://www.doedemee.be/ for all the details. The basic plan is that lots of illustrators get involved, do some fab posters for the top 100 books (from an Observer article a few years ago- don’t blame me if your fav isn’t in there, I didn’t make the list!) and then we raise some money for literacy charities by selling them. Yey!

Once I’m finished I’ll be writing a process post so you can see all the scruffy stages and half-finished scribbles that went into this design- so stay tuned!

Mountain mural

Sorry for the delay posting- I’ve been busy drawing on people’s walls! Nono, it’s ok I was supposed to. It was a mural for the lovely Dan and Vicki and it was great fun to work on. Sadly I wasn’t able to get the whole image finished over the weekend, so I now I have a great excuse to go back and visit them again soon!

This is the design I created in Illustrator

Here is me working away with my lovely assistant Maggie (who has a broken toe, which is why she has to wear that really nice pink bandage)

And here is a close up of a bit of the mountain mural. I’ll take some more photos when I go back to finish it off! If anyone fancies having a go at this themselves, I used light blue posca pens and they were lovely!

One of my favourite things to do in Zelda games

If you hadn’t already guessed, I’m a bit of a Zelda fan. I bloomin love those games! I’m currently playing Skyward Sword and it’s lovely. I miss having my irritating fairy buddy around, but hey (listen! …Sorry couldn’t help it) you can’t have everything the same.

So what is one of my favourite things you ask? Truth is, I love to roll about as Link, especially up stairs. I dont know why, but it’s great! *

Here is a little doodle of some quality stair-rolling times. I fancied experimenting with a sketchier style and playing with different brushes in photoshop. Aww Link, he’s the best!

* And I didn’t even say ‘that’s how I roll’! I’m being quite restrained today.

Maggie’s eight basic moves

I realised the other day that everything Maggie does inside the house is basically one of eight moves. When she really wants some dinner, for example, she combines the classic Nose move with the Saddest Dog move to great effect. If that ever fails (perhaps because I am a heartless woman and she has just been fed) she will then try the Collapse and Saddest Dog combo.

Then she gives up and steals my tea when I’m not looking because I’m typing… a blog… post… Damn.

Tesi and Mike’s wedding papercut

I’ve been wanting to share this for ages but it was a present and I had to wait until I had given it to Tesi, just in case I spoilt the surprise!

My lovely friends Tesi and Mike got married in Granada last year and I was lucky enough to be there! It was such a fabulous day and a beautiful place. Right now, in chilly, soggy, cloudy England, it seems even more lovely! *sigh*

So here is the papercut I made for them. The background is fabric with a gold pattern printed on it. I was going to use it with the gold side up, but for some reason I liked it better upside down!

Penguin fun! I’ve been feeling the January blues a little bit, but this cheered me up!
I think penguins are just inherently dapper.

Here is a happy little bear doodle to wish you all a happy new year! I am feeling a bit sleepy after new year’s eve so the colours are a bit gentler than usual!

I dunno why he is yelling ‘claws!’. Maybe that was what he asked Santa for? Every bear wants big claws after all.
